The Biscuit Love Company is the portrait project of Scott Gardner.
My work recently has consisted primarily of shooting stills on movie sets. These stills are used for publicity and marketing of the movie, as well as the poster and dvd artwork. I’ve had the good fortune on working on movies that have shown at both the Sundance and Cannes movie festivals, and have photographed a wide range of actors including Academy Award nominated Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain, Paul Rudd, Emile Hirsch, Johnny Knoxville, Patton Oswalt, Rob Riggle, and more.
As I reach this time in my life I have come to realize that I have continually strode around the world trying to fill some sort of hole inside myself. I have tried to fill that hole with many things: money, food, power, drugs, women :and yet somehow this hole never seems to get filled. Through my wanderings and listenings I have come to believe that what I need to do is be of service to something higher than myself. To give rather than take. I don’t want to live a life where my intention is to make as much money as possible, for me. It just feels like we as a society are being swallowed up by personal ambition and desire. So what can I do? What do I have to offer?
Well, it seems like something I am good at is taking pictures of people. I think I’m good at using a camera to capture something special about a person, like I can see the beauty in them and bring it shining out in a picture. I think everyone is beautiful. We live in a world that bombards us with what we’re supposed to think beautiful is, and we feel bad because we aren’t that. I want to take pictures that make people realize how beautiful they are.
